Connect with Our Community

Organization
Our Mainstreets Committee is composed of a diverse mix of business owners and other community constituents. The committee meets regularly to provide input on programming and to assist in implementing initiatives. We also rely on volunteers to help with specific initiatives, like events planning, community clean-ups, and distributing information to other businesses. If you're interested in becoming involved with our Mainstreets Committee or would like to volunteer for specific projects, please contact Jennifer Kent at 412.782.5100 x 103 or jennifer@lawrencevillecorp.com.

Design
In 2006, we launched the Clean Streets Program, an initiative that engages residents, business owners, and community organizations to help make Lawrenceville clean and attractive. Learn more about the program.

We've also organized volunteers to plant and maintain five community gardens and maintain trees along Butler Street and Penn Avenue.

In addition, we facilitate applications to the Streetface facade renovation program. This program has helped property owners, developers, and tenants throughout our Mainstreet districts restore their turn-of-the-century buildings to attractive spaces for today's businesses. Promotion
Since 2006, the LC has been engaged in an identity campaign that promotes a positive perception of Lawrenceville as a unique, interesting, vibrant place in which to visit, shop, eat, live, and work. The cornerstone of the campaign is the new Lawrenceville logo that represents both the historical significance as well as the creative rebirth of the neighborhood. Lawrenceville has a large and enthusiastic community of people who feel there’s something special about the neighborhood. From architecture to art, shopping to dining, edgy to old school, Lawrenceville is a vibrant community that’s creating a buzz as the next up-and-coming neighborhood. At the same time, it’s retained its close-knit community feel, giving it an authenticity lacking in other neighborhoods, malls, and shopping centers. Our goal in creating a new identity was to let everyone know that Lawrenceville is a distinctive, authentic place. The logo won a statewide award from the Pennsylvania Downtown Center in 2007.

Components of the identity campaign have included advertising (billboard, print, and radio), lightpole banners along Butler Street, and promotional items like t-shirts, posters, and window decals. New custom gateway signage, benches, and trash cans featuring elements of the new logo will be installed in 2008.

Economic Restructuring
Lawrenceville’s revitalization has attracted an increasing number of small business entrepreneurs. The 16:62 Design Zone has been a success in attracting a large number of art- and design-related businesses to the area. Since the program launched in 2000, more than 75 new businesses have opened.

We assist people interested in starting a business in Lawrenceville by connecting them with available properties and providing resources. In response to an increasing number of inquiries about available properties to lease or buy in Lawrenceville, we created an online database of properties.

We also own the Blackbird Artist Studios and are helping artists find affordable studio space.
