Our goal is to make Lawrenceville clean and attractive, which in turn will:
- provide a positive first impression to visitors and customers and entice them to return to our neighborhood;
- reinforce that Lawrenceville is a clean and safe area in which to visit, shop, work, and live;
- discourage littering and illegal dumping; and
- make our neighborhood a pleasant, attractive place—a benefit for the entire community!
As part of this program, we’ve:

- provided free dustpans and brooms to business owners to support them in sweeping the sidewalks in front of their stores;
- started a Golden Broom Award to reward business owners who do a great job of cleaning their storefronts;
- hired weekly sidewalk sweepers;
- participated in a cigarette litter program; and
- created and distributed “Help Keep Lawrenceville Clean” posters. The poster was designed by Nate Boguszewski, a resident and graphic designer.
Business owners should contact Maya Haptas for a free broom, dustpan, or poster.
In addition, we’ve also collaborated with Lawrenceville United to coordinate and hold monthly community clean-up days. In 2009, hundreds of volunteers picked up over 400 bags of trash in various sections of Lawrenceville.
The community clean-up days happen the third Saturday of every month from April through October. We meet at Lawrenceville United, 4825 Butler Street at 9 a.m. We provide breakfast, gloves and other materials, and afternoon lunch.
To make these clean-ups successful, we need as many people as possible to help. Please consider pitching in—contact Nadia Diboun to volunteer. We're always looking for groups and can give credit for community service.
