Gallery on 43rd Street: Leading the Way in Lawrenceville

Mary Coleman’s Gallery on 43rd Street has been a destination for locally-produced fine art and craft, including Mary’s own weavings, since 1994.

Located in a restored 1881 house just off Butler Street, Gallery on 43rd Street features paintings, pottery, glass, photography, and jewelry from Western Pennsylvania artists, plus Mary’s own woven rugs, placemats, and table runners. Mary has been a weaver since 1981. Gallery on 43rd Street also regularly features new art exhibits, with opening receptions giving people the opportunity to talk one-on-one with the featured artists. Check our Events Calendar regularly to learn about the latest exhibits.

In addition to running her gallery and working on her art, Mary has made immeasurable contributions to Lawrenceville by actively volunteering for the past 10 years; she was named Volunteer of the Month by the Lawrenceville Corporation in November 2007 for all her efforts. Dedicated, passionate, and enthusiastic about Lawrenceville, Mary has volunteered countless hours for Lawrenceville events including Art All Night, the Lawrenceville Hospitality House Tour, the Boys of Lawrenceville Spaghetti Dinner, the Joy of Cookies Cookie Tour, and the Blossom Tour.

"I volunteer because I want to help," says Mary. "I believe in these organizations and events...to promote Lawrenceville as a good neighborhood with a strong business district."

"I feel that Art All Night was the start of the new interest in Lawrenceville," continues Mary, a founding committee member. "Through Art All Night's continued efforts as a grassroots, mostly resident committee, they put on a fun, creative, and well-organized event that draws thousands of people to the neighborhood for 24 hours!"

Mary has also spent six years helping with the Lawrenceville House Tour, showcasing the beautiful houses that attract buyers to the neighborhood. Her involvement in the three years of the Boys of Lawrenceville Spaghetti Dinners have united people from all over Pittsburgh to raise money for local causes. She has also generously donated items from her gallery, gift certificates, and other items for other fundraising activities.

Mary knows that volunteering is a good way to meet new folks and make friends. "Volunteering usually takes lots of hours but I usually get a lot of satisfaction from the time given...especially when someone says 'thank you'." Gallery on 43rd Street is located at 187 43rd Street.
